Making Coffee

HOW TO BREW TRADITIONALLY

You can brew Kopi Luwak without a coffee maker or French press using the "pour over" method. Here's how:

What you will need:

  • 10 Grams (2 Tablespoons)

  • Bean Grinder

  • 6-8 ounces of water

  1. Grind the beans to a fine consistency, and put 2 tablespoons (10 Grams) of finely ground beans into a cup.

  2. Boil 6-8oz of filtered water to 195-205 Degrees F.

  3. Once boiled, pour a small amount of hot water over the grounds to wet them and allow them to "bloom".

  4. Slowly pour the rest of the hot water into the cup of finely ground beans & Gently Stir.

  5. Allow the coffee to sit for 2-5 minutes. This allows the Luwak flavor to absorb into the water.

  6. Enjoy your premium Luwak coffee. You can add milk, cream, or sugar if desired. You may use a filter, or strainer to remove the grounds, typically we recommend to just sip slowly.

Note: You can also use a drip pot or a makeshift filter system (e.g. a cheesecloth) if you don't have a pour over cone or carafe.

FRENCH PRESS METHOD

Here's how to brew kopi luwak using a French press:

  • 1.0 ounce of coffee (30 grams) for two cups

  • 15 to 16 ounces of water (443-473 ML)

  • French Press

  1. Boil water to the desired temperature (around 205°F).

  2. Grind the kopi luwak beans to a medium-coarse consistency.

  3. Place the ground coffee into the French press.

  4. Pour the hot water over the grounds.

  5. Stir the mixture gently.

  6. Place the plunger on top of the French press, but do not press it down yet.

  7. Let the coffee steep for 4-5 minutes.

  8. Slowly press down the plunger to separate the grounds from the coffee.

  9. Pour the brewed coffee into a mug and enjoy.

Note: Experiment with the amount of coffee and steeping time to find the flavor that best suits your taste.

Coffee Maker

COFFEE MAKER METHOD

Here's how to brew kopi luwak using a coffee maker:

  • 0.35 ounces of coffee (10 grams) per 6oz cup (177 ml)

  • 6 ounces of water (177 ML)

  • Coffee machine

  1. Fill the coffee maker's water reservoir with the desired amount of water.

  2. Grind the kopi luwak beans to a medium-fine consistency.

  3. Place the ground coffee in the coffee maker's filter.

  4. Turn on the coffee maker and let it run until all the water has passed through the grounds and into the carafe.

  5. Pour the brewed coffee into a mug and enjoy.

Note: If your coffee maker has a warming plate, be sure to remove the carafe from the heating element as soon as the brewing process is complete to avoid overcooking the coffee.

Porta Filters

EXPRESSO STYLE

Here's how to brew Kopi Luwak expresso style:

  • 0.7 ounces of coffee (20 grams) for double espresso

  • 2 ounces of water (60 ML)

  • Espresso Machine

  1. Before you begin, wash the grouphead with hot water and heat your espresso mug

  2. Grind your coffee to a fine setting

  3. Place ground beans in the portafilter. Smooth with your finger and use the tamp to compact beans. The force should be firm but not overly so (here is a link to some tamping advice)

  4. If done correctly, the espresso should start with a slow drip and become a steady stream in a few seconds. The double shot should take around 30 seconds to finish.

  5. Enjoy your premium Kaya Kopi Luwak!
